All the major parties except RJD and AIADMK have announced to support the upper caste reservation bill in Rajya Sabha. The Lok Sabha had on Tuesday cleared the legislation.
A day after the Lok Sabha passed the upper caste reservation bill, the Modi government introduced the legislation in the Rajya Sabha for final parliamentary assent. The Constitution 124th (Amendment) Bill, 2019, that promises to provide 10% reservation to economically backward sections (EWS) in the upper caste in educational institutions and jobs was tabled by Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thaawar Chand Gehlot.
Rajya Sabha passes Constitution (124th Amendment) Bill, 2019 with 149 ‘ayes’. The bill will provide reservation for economically weaker section of the society in higher educational institutions.
