2018 Hyundai Creta launch date, key features, mileage and price in India

2018 Hyundai Creta launch date, key features, mileage and price in India

In the small SUV segment, the Hyundai Creta has been performing exceedingly well ever since it went on sale in the domestic market. The reason behind its success are not just the powerful engines, advanced features and appealing look, but also the much convenient after-sales services provided by Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) throughout the country.

Hyundai is now working on its facelift to keep the things fresh and stand strong amidst the competition. The new Hyundai Creta 2018 has already been spotted earlier on the Indian streets and is all prepared to debut at the Auto Expo 2018, which is scheduled to happen in February. As per the sources, Creta facelift is expected to launch in the second quarter of the year in India, while it is already available in the Brazilian market.

Here are the details of the new 2018 Hyundai Creta.

2018 Hyundai Creta: Key features

Engine, Transmission and Mileage
The new and refreshed Hyundai Creta will come with the same engine specifications that are found in the ongoing model. The petrol variant will be powered by a 1.6-litre dual VTVT four-cylinder, which is capable of producing a maximum power of 121 bhp and churns out a peak torque of 151 Nm. This particular variant will come paired with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission system.

The current Creta offers two diesel variants - 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre CRDi turbocharged engines. The new Creta will offer the same engine specs on the two diesel variants. The variant with the smaller engine pushes out a power of 126 bhp and 220 Nm of torque, while the bigger engine develops 126 bhp and 259 Nm of power and torque respectively. The 1.4-litre diesel engine is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, while the other one comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard and a 6-speed automatic transmission as optional.

Coming to the mileage section, the figure seems to be the same as the ongoing variants. While the mileage for the petrol variant is around 15.29 km in a litre, the two diesel variants are capable of going a long way in just a litre. The mileage for 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre diesel engine read as 21.38 kmpl and 19.67 kmpl respectively.

Design and Features
The 2018 Hyundai Creta will come with a lot of changes as compared to the outgoing version. There will be a newly-designed bumper, new horizontal front fog lamps, and a restyled cascading front grille at the front. The rear profile is expected to be enhanced by a set of new tail lamps and a revised bumper. The car is also expected to come with a set of new alloy wheels that will give a nice attracting look.

As you will get inside the new Creta, you will be offered with a revised dashboard with an all-new infotainment system enhanced by a touch screen interface. The upholstery is expected to get better in the new version of the car. Also, advanced features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are expected to get featured.

Braking and safety
The 2018 Hyundai Creta will come with all the necessary braking and advanced safety features that will ensure that all the occupants sitting inside the car are safe and secured while on a ride. Dual front and side airbags, Anti-lock braking system (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce distribution (EBD), electronic stability control (ESP), traction control, and brake and hill assist will be offered on this small SUV car.

Our Take on Hyundai Creta 2018
Hyundai has introduced Creta roughly three years ago, and since then the car has garnered a lot of traction. With the new 2018 Creta, the company seems to be confident enough with the kind of features they have enrolled in it. Now, it is the price range that will decide the fate of the car.

However, the small SUV is expected to be priced at Rs 9 lakh and would go up to Rs 15 lakh for the top-end variant. In this price range, the 2018 Creta will compete with the likes of Tata Hexa, Jeep Compass, Renault Duster, Mahindra XUV500, etc. You can read about its competitors in detail at Autoportal.com for a better understanding.

The 6 coolest features on cars of the future

The 6 coolest features on cars of the future

features on cars of the future

Technology in the auto sector seems to be developing at rapid speed. With test for self-driven cars currently ongoing, it seems as though we may soon see a technological revolution in the way we travel. There is a number of company’s leading the way. Tesla seem to be in pole position for technology having just announced the world’s first self-driven truck. We have compiled a list of some of the coolest features which could soon be fitted in your car.

1. Autonomous Driving
Self-driving cars are just around the corner. There are a number of companies who are in the final stages of testing for autonomous cars and the deployment of autonomous technology seems to be imminent. Some modern cars already feature self-parking features; however it is likely that soon we will be able to take our hands off the wheel completely. Some feature that autonomous cars will come at the cost of driving related jobs; but that may not necessarily be true. There is room for humans to be able to work alongside technology, rather than as opposed to it.

2. On screen interactive displays
Technological developments are developing rapidly on the inside as well as the outside of vehicles. Car manufacturers are developing better interactive technology all the time. Drivers can now receive on-screen traffic, weather and directional updates without even needing to take their eyes off the road. Not only is this improving driving experiences, but it is also proving to be a lot safer. As the driver no longer needs to take his eyes off the road, they are less likely to become distracted.

3. Improved protection from theft
Soon, car theft may become a crime of the past. Car marquees are currently developing technology which allows a car owner to remotely shut down a car without having to be inside or even anywhere near it. This is likely to result in both theft deterrents and also the safe return of any vehicle which has been stolen. In addition to improved theft protection, GPS systems are becoming more accurate and widely used in new cars. This means that any car which has been taken will be able to be tracked down quickly and accurately.

4. Speed
Although fast travelling cars is nothing new, the inability for electric and renewable cars to travel at fast speeds has often been a barrier for people to make the switch from fuel-powered cars. However, we are starting to see a big development in the technology behind electric sports cars. Tesla recently announced the production of a new roadster with the ability to travel from 0-60mph in just 1.9 seconds. This is a speed which was recently widely thought to be impossible by electric cars. With Tesla leading the way with this latest development, we could expect rival manufacturers to soon follow suit. It won’t be long until speedy electrics are widely available.

5. Talking Cars
Yes, cars will soon be able to communicate with one another. As scary as the thought is, the purpose of vehicle-to-communicate will provide a lot of useful information to road users. In the moment, Mercedes are the front runners when it comes to V2V communication. The latest Mercedes are able to provide information on traffic conditions, weather and critical information to other vehicles from the German manufacturers.

6. Connected Travel
Soon your car could become a hub of connectivity. In-car WiFi will soon allow passengers to receive and search for information on the move. Alongside the development of autonomous driving, ‘drivers’ could soon become passengers, allowing them to relax and use WiFi services while they travel. Annoying tasks such as driving around built-up areas in search of a parking spot could also soon be a think of the past with cars receiving real time updates with parking finder apps.

Is Winter Coming? Get Your Car Ready

Is Winter Coming? Get Your Car Ready

Source

Winter is coming, without a doubt. While some people prepare to enjoy their vacation on a hot summer beach, others prefer the magic of winter and spending quality time on the snow, enjoying it to the fullest. No matter if you're heading for a winter vacation or that winter is harsh wherever it is that you live, one thing is for sure - you have to get your car ready. Here are a few tips on how to do just that.

Winter tires
First and foremost, winter tires are essential during the showy and icy conditions on the road. They offer more traction on the road, better grip and they improve your car's handling in winter conditions.

Aside from, road safety and performance benefits, winter tires are mandatory by law in some countries when temperature falls to 7 degrees C / 44 degrees F or simply from October to mid-April. That's why it's important to check your tires and replace them when needed.

Check your brakes
Brakes are one the most crucial components in your car and checking them regularly is a must, not just in winter. If your brakes have seen some wear and tear, then it's time to replace them. For instance, if your brakes do in fact need replacement, then you can ask your mechanic to replace them with a high quality DBA rotor brakes.

However, if you find yourself sliding on icy road don't hit the brakes under no circumstances. It will only make you lose control of your car and block your wheels, which may lead you to crash into a tree or a nearby car. Instead, put in neutral gear and steer your car in the direction opposite of the slide.

Check for Antifreeze
Having the right amount of antifreeze in your radiator is vital for your car during winter conditions. Antifreeze prevents your engine and engine fluids from freezing when temperatures fall below 0C/32F. The perfect amount of antifreeze and water in your radiator should be in a 50:50 ratio. You can buy premade bottles of antifreeze/water mixtures at your local car shop or gas station.

Check your engine oil
Engine oil helps the car run smoother and it enhances its performance, but during winter when temperatures are below freezing, oil tends to thicken. That makes it harder for oil to pass between the parts, which may cause your engine to overheat.

That's why it's important to check your engine oil before you head into a blizzard. If you're using a high viscosity oil for your car, then it will thicken faster. Make sure you replace such oil with lower viscosity oil; the car's manual should contain information about which oil is right for your car.

Check windshield wipers and their fluid
Driving in winter conditions means that you should expect low visibility on the road. Snow flurries may turn into blizzards before you know it and icy rain can freeze on your windshield, making it impossible to see through. People usually ignore wipers up until the point when bare-metal starts scratching their windshield.

However, if you want to pass through snow and icy rain than you'll want your wipers to be brand new. Also, wiper fluid helps clear the sludge made by rain and snow from your windshield, helping you to see better in harsh conditions.

Tire chains
Winter can take you by surprise if you're not adequately prepared. Winter conditions tend to get quite unpredictable and at one moment you may be driving on the clear road, while finding yourself stuck in snow the next. Make sure you always have a spare tire and that you also have tire chains for all four wheels, if you need to drive through snow. Chains improve traction and can help you dig your car out of snow if you ever get stuck.

Getting your car ready for winter is exceptionally important. Not only will you protect your car from harsh conditions, but also protect yourself from unpleasant situations.

Car Maintenance Checklist: How to Prepare for a Road Trip

Car Maintenance Checklist: How to Prepare for a Road Trip

Car Maintenance Checklist

Although no one can argue that going on a road trip provides you with a completely new travel experience, going out there underprepared can be incredibly dangerous, not to mention completely irresponsible. In order to minimize the odds of something bad happening on the road, what you need to do is stock up properly, prepare your itinerary ahead of time and, most importantly, prepare your vehicle for what lies ahead. Here is a brief car maintenance checklist you might want to consult before heading out.

1. Check your fluid levels
The first thing you want to do is check the fluid levels in your vehicle. Oil ought to be changed every 10,000 or even 5,000 miles but its choice may depend on the weather conditions you might meet ahead. You see, full synthetic oil is much better for extremely low temperatures, as well as oil with high viscosity. As you can see, choosing the right oil for your car is not such an easy job after all. Furthermore, to prepare for extremely high or low temperatures, you might also want to consider adding some antifreeze or coolant.

2. Inspect your tires
The next inspection you might want to attend to is that of your tires. You can start with a basic visual inspection and check the alignment and rotation. A misalignment here could cause a rapid and uneven tear, which might cause a trouble on a longer voyage. Aside from this, you also want to make sure that all your tires are properly pressurized. Seeing as how this is a common inspection, it might even be worth your while to purchase a digital tire gauge and learn how to use it. One last thing, remember to check the pressure in your spare tires, as well. You would be surprised just how many people completely forget to do so and come to regret it later on.

3. Look under the hood
Another thing you want is to check the situation under the hood. Even a layman can see if the battery terminals are clean and if the drive belt looks worn out, glazed or even cracked. According to experts behind the Epping car service station, the break of a timing belt might have much more serious repercussions than simply getting stranded. There is a serious risk that such an unfortunate occurrence could cause a major engine damage which could lead to a preventable disaster. Therefore, if you are not 100 percent sure about your ability to recognize this particular problem it might be for the best to ask for a professional help.

4. Brake system
Finally, the most important thing you absolutely must check before heading out is your brake system. Failure to do so might result in dire consequences, which is why you should probably make this inspection your top priority. You can start with checking brake fluids. The first step towards making this work lies in checking the color in the brake reservoir of the fluid and make sure it is completely full. The safest course of action would probably be to just flush the fluid that is inside and replace it entirely prior to setting out.

In conclusion
Of course, there are many other things you might want to inspect before you head out, as well. For instance, you need to check the expiry dates on some perishable items in your first aid kit, just to make sure everything is up to date. Furthermore, you always want to have a complete toolset and an extra set of bulbs for your car’s light. Even if you aren’t an expert mechanic, there are simply some skills you must possess if you are to head out on the open road all by yourself (figuratively speaking). Therefore, in order to make your future road trip as safe as possible, you might need as much preparation as your car.

6 top tips for when buying a used car

6 top tips for when buying a used car

As the price of used cars go up and up, many of us are turning to buying used cars as a way to keep costs down. Buying a used car can save you huge amounts of money. However, it’s important to be aware of a few things that might just cost money to fix in the long run. In this article we list the 6 top things to look out for when buying a used car, from the overall efficiency of the vehicle, right through to the condition of the engine.

1. Familiarise yourself with the vehicle history

It’s important to get the vehicle history or logbook of any vehicle that you are buying. This will outline the entire history of the vehicle. Things to look out for include whether the vehicle has been stolen or has an outstanding loan against it. Most importantly it will tell you if the vehicle has been serviced or not.

2. Do your research

One of the golden rules of buying a new car is to research it as much as possible. You should go online first to check the marketplace for prices on cars from different commercial and private retailers. Don’t forget to contact garages directly to compare the specifications of certain vehicles and to compare price.

3. Know your budget

Set your budget at a price that you can comfortably afford. Before you set out to obtain quotes keep in mind that your budget might need to include maintenance and running costs. Remember to get a few quotes and not just settle on one.

4. Ask lots of questions

A common mistake made by people when buying used cars is the fact that they do not gather all the information to need to make an informed purchasing decision. Many buyers do not have the full picture or a clear understanding of the history of the vehicle. This is probably the single biggest mistake a buyer of a second hand vehicle will make. It is wise to make sure that you have no doubts in your mind about your potential purchase. If you do, then you should get these resolved as soon as possible with the seller.

5. Do a thorough inspection

The only way you can know that a thorough inspection has been carried out on a vehicle is if you have asked a qualified mechanic to do it. An experienced mechanic is the best person to identify small details like the condition of the seatbelts and tyres, through to any signs of rust or decay.

6. Have a test drive

Never purchase a used car unless you know how it runs. It would be a mistake to give over your hard earned cash for a car that you have not even tested. Some of the important things to check when out on the road are gear changes (are they comfortable?) and the steering wheel (does it move smoothly or is there some resistance?).

Top 5 crossover cars coming to India

Top 5 crossover cars coming to India

Over the years, there have been plenty of additions in the automobile industry. These additions are not strictly subjected to features and new models as a whole. In fact, there has been a world of changes brought about in the segment as well.

As any purist, who has been following the auto industry for decades, about what is main structure of segments in passenger cars and he will instinctively shoot back naming hatchbacks, sedans and SUVs. But in this present generation, these three segments are just the root and has spread into various sub-segments like subcompact sedan, mini hatch, subcompact SUV and crossovers.

Though we see the subcompact sedans space to be the best-selling segment now, crossovers are equally popular. The subcompact sedan segment may outnumber other segments any day, but this will mainly be for its utilization as commercial cab fleet. On the other hand, crossover is one of the growing segments in the domestic passenger segment and provides the best amalgamation between the muscularity of SUVs and smaller size.

Crossovers are the perfect substitute for large-sized SUVs. Hence, considering that this segment substitutes SUVs, the expectation is always on a high. So let’s go ahead and discover more about the top five crossovers that will be launched in India soon.

Renault Captur

In a bid to get a higher market share, Renault India will soon be introducing the Renault Captur. The Captur crossover is a perfect combination of curves, edges and boldness that flowin sequenceto make the picture perfect. The crossover houses projector headlamps, blacked out pillars and ORVMs, 5-spoke alloy wheels and the gentle yet butchy wheel arches.

On the mechanical front, the Renault Captur will carry both petrol and diesel motors. It is expected to get the same set of engines as the Renault Duster. If so, there will be a 1.6-litre engine producing 104 bhp of power and 145 Nm of torque. The other 1.5-litre diesel engine will come in two states of trims, one making 85 bhp power and 200 Nm torque and the other making 110 bhp power and 245 Nm torque.

Tata Nexon

The Tata Nexon is the latest offering from the company in the compact crossover space. Tata hasn’t had anything significant in this segment until it unveiled theNexon. The designing in the front section of the crossover is borrowed from its other sibling, the Tata Bolt hatch. The car is muscular from every angle, despite not being very big in size. The contrasting colour roof and pillars make the car look aggressive and sharp. There are additional cladding all around the lower profile of the car.

The Tata Nexon is expected to come with 1.2-litre and 1.3-litre petrol and diesel engines respectively. The petrol motor can make 90 bhp of power and 140 Nm of torque while the diesel trim can produce a maximum power of 90 bhp and a peak torque of 200 Nm. As for the transmission, there will be a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox unit.

Toyota C-HR

Toyota’s upcoming vehicle, C-HR will be a premium crossover with a hybrid powerplant. The Toyota crossover will have options of large 17-inch or 18-inch alloy wheels. The body will be highly contoured. On the inside, there will be a 3-spoke steering wheel wrapped in leather upholstery. There will also be a dual-zone automatic air conditioning to keep the comfort level a notch higher.

The Toyota C-HR will be getting a petrol and hybrid drive system. The 1.8-litre petrol engine will thrust out a power of 122 bhp and a peak torque of 142 Nm. The hybrid system will involve a permanent magnet synchronous motor which will make 72 bhp power and 163 Nm of torque.

Datsun Go-Cross

Datsun is the budget-friendly automobile brand of Nissan. All the cars produced by this company are inexpensive by default. The new Datsun Go-Cross will be based on the same platform as the Go+ MPV. By far, the Go-Cross will be the most muscular Datsun car that will be on sale in India. The alloy wheels are larger than what you normally get in the Go+. The front bumper is butch with skid plates along with the addition of roof rails.

In terms of the mechanism, Datsun will include both the petrol as well as the diesel engine. We can expect the crossover to get the same set of engines as the MPV version. However, there is no official word from the company about the same.

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross

The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is the first significant crossover from the house of the Indo-Japanese car maker. First launched in 2014, the facelifted version of the car is slated to be launched in India towards the latter part of 2017. The new S-Cross will get a generous amount of chrome on the front section. The dimensions of the car will remain more or less similar to the current generation model. Moreover, the crossover will also be luxurious on the inside with premium quality of every bit, including the upholstery.

The facelifted version of the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is expected to get the same set of engines as the present version. If so, it will be getting a 1.3 litre and a 1.6-litre diesel engine. The smaller engine will be capable of making 89 bhp power and 200 Nm torque. The bigger 1.6-litre engine will be capable of making 118 bhp of power and 320 Nm torque. However, the bigger engine is elusive to the top end variant only.

What’s more?
It is to be noted here that most of the crossover listed here are new introductions and not merely facelifts (excluding the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross). Hence, we can be sure that this new thriving segment has a bright future in a country that is one of the most popular automobile markets in the passenger segment.

Keeping this in mind, we can be sure that there are many more of such crossovers lined up in the pipeline or are in the production phase. It’s just a waiting game now before we get a wide foray of crossover that would, indeed, give us a sweet dilemma.

How to Drive Safely in the Fall

How to Drive Safely in the Fall

Driving in the fall can be tricky because it isn’t like driving in other weather conditions. There are random fluctuations in temperature because of the impending winter. During fall, temperatures can swing from hot to cool, and can be windy and rainy; you may evenbegin to see some ice on the roads. Because of this, it is important to pay particular attention to the road and to your car when driving during this season. Below are a few tips to help you keep your car in the right conditions for the weather, and in turn help you remain safe while driving.

Check your tires
You should check your tires as you drive about this season. One particular area you should not neglect is the tread on your tires. If your tires do not have sufficient tread depth, they could skid on the wet roads that are a trademark of the fall season in most parts of the country. Your tires need to have enough traction when driving on wet surfaces in order to avoiding potential car accidents that are so common especially during this season. It is also a good idea to check the pressure on your tires as the drop in temperature will also affect the pressure in your tires. Take time out to fill them up regularly and make it a point to keep a tire pressure gauge in the vehicle.

Check your wiper blades
Be sure to check your wiper blades and ensure that they are working well. If they begin to streak or leave patches of moisture on your windshield, then it is a sign that they are due for change. If they squeak, chatter or smear, then it is time to get new pair. Your wiper blades are very important particularly during the fall season when rain can be unpredictable. Another reason to check your wiper blades is because if the rubber on the blades wears out, they could cause damage to your windshield. This is an easy fix, and only requires a short trip to your local auto shop.

Regularly Monitor Your Fluids
When temperatures begin to cool down, the fluids in your vehicle will also get thicker. It is a good idea to check them regularly and top them up when necessary. Changing the fluids may also be required so that they are clean. A good tip is to drain out your coolant and replace it with new coolant particularly if you experience extreme weather conditions.

Be Aware of Signs
Paying attention to road signs and safety rules is a good idea in any season. In the fall, be aware of your environment and drive carefully. With changing weather conditions, new signs may be posted from one day to the next with warnings of road conditions. Keep a lookout for such signs. With Daylight Saving Time, there will be reduced visibility because it gets darker earlier. Drive carefully and watch out for others sharing the road, including animals.

This autumn, make sure your car is properly serviced so that it can handle even the most unexpected weather shifts. What are some yearly routines that you practice to stay safe during this season?
